my 5.3 will idle all day with no problems but as soon as i hit freeway speed it will go through a gallon of coolant in 15 miles. The water pump has been changed, the thermostat has been changed three times, and the heads were shaved ( that is a red flag to me). A new ECM, fan, and radiator. this was done by the previouse owner. i fixed the a/c, put new tires on it, and fixed the windsheild. It runs and looks great; it has all the whistles and bells, except for a sunroof. Oh, yes, I just changed the battery last month. i bought a tester that ises a fluid ti check for combution gas in the coolant. and i got a pressure checker. as soon as it clears up a bit i will go check it.
